NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 186 (TAXATION) OF THE PERINTON TOWN CODE
-NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a Public Hearing will be held by the Town Board of the Town of Perinton on June 15, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as possible, at the Perinton Town Hall, 1350 Turk Hill Road, Fairport, New York, to consider a proposed Local Law amending Chapter 186, Article II of the Code of the Town of Perinton, entitled "Senior Citizens Exemption."
The purpose of the proposed amendment is to update real property tax exemption criteria for eligible senior citizens pursuant to § 467 of the New York State Real Property Tax Law. The proposed revisions will:
1. Increase the Maximum Income Level (MIL): Raise the base eligibility income limit from $29,000 to $50,000 for a 50% assessed valuation exemption, with corresponding adjustments to the sliding scale exemption percentages for incomes up to $58,399.
2. Include IRA Distributions in Income Determinations: In accordance with RPTL § 467(3)(a)(iv)(2), amend the definition of income to include distributions received from an individual retirement account or individual retirement annuity that are included in an applicant's federal adjusted gross income.
All parts of the Town of Perinton, including those areas within the corporate limits of the Village of Fairport, are affected.
A full copy of the proposed text revisions is available for public inspection during regular business hours at the Office of the Town Clerk at the Perinton Town Hall.
All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard at said time and place.
