-The Town of Greece is seeking qualifications from licensed attorneys or law firms interested in providing prosecutorial services for the Town Court.
Overview
The Town seeks up to two experienced attorneys to serve as Town Prosecutor and provide professional legal services related to the prosecution of matters arising within the jurisdiction of the Town Court regarding enforcement of state and Town laws, ordinances, and regulations.
The selected individual(s) or firm will work cooperatively with the Town Administration, Town Attorney, law enforcement agencies, code enforcement personnel, and court personnel.
Scope of Services
Services may include, but are not limited to:
· Prosecuting violations of Town ordinances, local laws, and municipal codes
· Prosecuting Vehicle and Traffic Law violations within the jurisdiction of Town Court, as authorized by law
· Prosecuting civil matters arising out of Monroe County School Bus Monitoring Program
· Reviewing accusatory instruments, tickets, and supporting documentation
· Appearing regularly in Town Court proceedings
· Negotiating plea agreements and dispositions where appropriate
· Coordinating with law enforcement agencies, code enforcement officers, and other Town personnel
· Preparing legal documents, motions, and related filings
· Providing periodic reports as requested
· Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, ethical rules, and prosecutorial obligations
· Conducting trials including subpoenas of witnesses and any necessary documentation
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should possess the following qualifications:
· Admission to practice law in the State of New York
· Good standing with the New York State Unified Court System
· Demonstrated experience in criminal prosecution, municipal law, local court practice, or related litigation
· Knowledge of:
o New York Criminal Procedure Law
o Vehicle and Traffic Law
o Municipal Home Rule Law
o New York State Agriculture & Markets Law
o Town Law
o Local court procedures
· Ability to communicate effectively with judges, law enforcement, municipal officials, and the public Preference may be given to applicants with prior experience serving as:
· Municipal prosecutor
· Assistant district attorney
· Town or village attorney
· Special counsel to a municipality
Submission Requirements
Interested applicants shall submit:
1. Letter of interest
2. Resume or statement of qualifications
3. Description of relevant municipal and prosecutorial experience
4. Names and contact information for three professional references
5. Proposed fee structure or compensation requirements
6. Proof of professional liability insurance, if applicable
Term of Appointment
The appointment shall be made by the Town Board and shall be subject to the terms and conditions established by contract and applicable law. The Town reserves the right to reject any or all submissions and to request additional information from applicants.
